Frequently Asked Questions
We know that starting therapy can be daunting, and it's normal to have questions you want answered before you begin. Below you will find the most frequently asked questions by new clients. Please scroll or use the categories below. If you still have more questions, feel free to contact us!
Session & Experience
- 01The initial 15-minute consultation is a casual, no-obligation conversation designed to ensure that the therapist is a good match for you. We will briefly discuss what is bringing you to therapy, look over our availability, and answer any logistical questions you have about the therapeutic process. If it feels like a good fit, we can book your first session, or you can take the time you need to think about your decision.
- 02Therapy isn't just for people experiencing a mental health crisis. Many people seek therapy to better understand themselves, improve relationships, manage stress, navigate life changes, build coping skills, or simply have a safe, non-judgmental space to talk. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or would like support in reaching your personal goals, therapy may be a helpful next step.
- 03No, you are always in complete control of the pacing of your sessions. While therapy naturally invites you to explore vulnerable or uncomfortable topics (and this is where the most growth usually is), we will never force you to dive into painful memories or trauma before you feel entirely grounded and ready. Each of our therapists’ primary goal is to build a safe foundation of stability first.
- 04Finding the right therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process. Each member of our team has their own areas of expertise, therapeutic approaches, and personality. We encourage you to read our therapist profiles to learn more about each clinician. If you're unsure who would be the best fit, we're happy to help match you with a therapist based on your needs, goals, and preferences.
- 05The number of therapy sessions varies from person to person. It depends on your unique goals, the challenges you're facing, and the type of support you're looking for. Some people find that a few sessions provide the guidance they need to work through a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns, heal from past experiences, or work toward ongoing personal growth. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to develop a plan that aligns with your goals and will regularly check in to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs. You are always in control of your therapy journey and can discuss adjusting the frequency or duration of sessions at any time.
- 06Most therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Some services, such as couples or family therapy, may be offered in longer sessions depending on your needs and the therapist's recommendations.
